Fear

Fear is natural, but it can become a negative emotion. If you are afraid of everything then you may have a problem that you need professional help to deal with. Many people have phobias, though their phobia may not have a significant impact on their life.

For example, a person that is afraid of heights may avoid tall buildings or riding on airplanes. This does not mean they will never travel. They just might take the train, a bus, a boat, a car, or another form of transportation that is a bit closer to the ground.

However, someone that is filled with fear every time they go outside has some personal development issues they need to deal with. This is the negative side of fear. When the emotion is taking over your life then you have a problem you need help to fix.

Fear may be everything from excitement or anticipation of the unknown to terror at the thought of doing something you are uncomfortable doing. If you are nervous or apprehensive about something, the level of fear you feel may determine how you handle certain situations in your life.

Those who are apprehensive may still experience life. Many feel apprehension or fear during intricate moments in their life and relationships. For example, it is common for people to feel fearful or anxious when they are about to get married. Not only is all the planning stressful, but it is a new chapter in a person’s life that can lead to apprehension of the unknown. This, however, is not considered a negative emotion unless it becomes so problematic it leaves you feeling unable or uncomfortable committing to the relationship or drastic measures are taken to prevent the fearful event from happening.

Terror is usually felt in order to kick in adrenaline. This adrenaline rush is necessary to help those who are in stressful situations handle the situations. The increase in energy can help to combat any negative situations a person gets into. Fear can help to protect a person. It is generally seen as a healthy emotion when it is used as a defense mechanism.

However, some people feel terrified at things that they should not fear. This is when the emotion becomes a negative emotion. Negative fear can prevent relationships from forming. It can also cause relationships to end, especially when the fear tends to be irrational.

While you can conquer your fears and combat other negative emotions on your own, it is okay to ask for help if you are not sure how. You should not be afraid to seek counseling or even to ask your significant other if they can help you. Sometimes just talking about your fears can help you to move past them, especially when you have the support of your loved ones.
